About Me

Karl Nemsow
That's Me! Karl
I am the guy on the right. My name is Karl Nemsow and I love music. I love the internet. The combination of the two became the blog Eighteen Songs. The only thing I love more than music is making compilation albums. And that’s why Eighteen Songs exists. I have never been a "blogger" before but I am diving in head first.

I’m from Melbourne, Australia and I am currently studying a degree in internet communications at Curtin University. I am putting my knowledge to use by using social networking tools such as Mixpod, Twitter and Facebook to spread the word. I encourage you all to read and understand the privacy policies of all these sites before you sign up to any of their services to ensure you are happy to interact through these social network mediums.

Why am I doing this? I’ve been making mix tapes since the mid 90s - that’s right! - before the internet! Every year my friends and I put our favourite 18 songs of the year onto a CD and give them to our friends at Christmas. Then I found a massive box of my old mix tapes when I was moving house a while back and realized that some of them were pretty good and were markers for different times in my life. I found my old workout tape for the gym, my pump up tape for before I went out to play a game of football, old party tapes, road trip tapes, you name it, all of them have an emotional attachment.  I decided I’m going to begin sharing these online in search for the Holy Grail – the perfect mix tape.

Why listen to someone else’s mix tape? Whenever I listen to other people compilations I always find songs I either didn’t know of, had heard but didn’t know the name of, or had completely forgotten. The discovery of one good song, or one new artist is worth listening for.

The music you listen to says something about who you are, where you have come from, where you are now and where you are going.

So if you have a mix tape, or a compilation you love, tell me all about it and I will blog it for the entire world to listen and enjoy.
